Recording 2 – Phil

This recording is part of the Medical English For You prototype series. Listen to the recording and follow the script below.

Dear Joe,

This is Phil, one of your university colleagues. I feel I have to contact you regarding my condition. Last week I visited Balatonfüred, my favourite spot by Lake Balaton, with my dog, Floki.

The weather was hot, maybe too hot for my liking. Anyway, it reminded me of those holidays when I was a kid when warm weather always meant summer.

The day after I arrived, I took Floki for a short walk in the nearby woods. As I was walking uphill, I experienced a squeezing pain in my chest. It spread to both arms and I started feeling short of breath. I started to panic and suddenly felt very afraid, like I was dying, just the textbooks describe. The whole episode didn’t last longer than five minutes. And I didn’t have my nitrate patch on, of course.

I had coronary arteriography some two years ago and it showed two strictures in my coronary arteries.

I’m feeling all right now, but I’ve never had this kind of chest pain before. It would be great if I could have an appointment with you in the near future.

Thank you in advance,

Phil
