Ira, the keen typist

She had spent all her working life at the University Clinic as a typist.

She loved to gossip, that was why she chose an office attached to the library, as everyone went through arriving to meetings or just doing some research.

She was extremely petit, not really pretty. Her son lived in South Africa, and she bragged like ‘he is fluent in English and Negro’.

The latter could have been the Afrikaans.

As soon as Dr. Kali started working at the Clinic she fell in love with him and everybody was aware of it. But Dr. Kali did not seem to notice it. One day she turned to him asking for advice. She let him know that two men proposed to her, one was too young and the one is too old. Which one should she choose ? she asked. ‘Listen Ira’, as Dr. Kali always started everything whatever it was, let’s be cautious, marry the older one. ‘ Some days later as he entered the office Ira turned to him: ‘Imagine, what happened !’ she uttered,’the younger one died !’

On another occasion as Dr. Kali entered the office one of the deputy professors and extremely embittered, unpleasant woman, she happened to be one of the leads in the clinic actually, dictated to Ira. But Ira didn’t mind. She looked at Dr. Kali and said ‘It will be an urgent report to type, am I right ?’ she asked and pulled out the papers from the type-writer with an unbelievable zest.

Before she died she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit where Dr. Kali was the lead. She gave herself to him in the end.
