Kriszti and Joska

I had four neighbours in Budakeszi, one of them was Kriszti and Joska, another Bela and Ari. Joska was very jealous. One day, as Kriszti told me, he saw Kriszti and Bela laughing in Bela’s garden and then going into the house. As Kriszti went home, Joska confrontated with her ‘Did you have a good hanky panky ?’ ‘In case you think I am in a relationship with Bela then let’s get divorced !’ Kriszti answered.

The same year Lilly wrapped up some presents for them before Christmas and went to bed. She jumped out of the bed in the middle of the night as she suddenly realised that she wrote Kriszti and Bela on the accompanying card of their present.

Bela was a heavy drinker. He was too eager to pick plums, cherries and sour cherries to make spirits. One day he climbed a tree being drunk. He fell and broke his leg in many pieces. He had to have been operated on, they fixed the bones with metal plates and screws.

Next month he climbed a tree and fell again. His bones broke over the metalwork which meant he had to have a reoperation.

He never drank again.

Kriszti loved my dogs and helped everyone in the village.

One day she told me there was a blind spot in front of her right eye.

Our GP prescribed some vitamins for her. I requested a CT and it confirmed she had a metastatic tumor in her brain. The primary was in her lungs. She was a heavy smoker. She died in 6 months despite having oncologic treatment.
